Jarkan 48′ (14.6m) Cruising Sail and Power Sloop.

A tough go anywhere yacht for extended range or live aboard cruising.

The Jarkan 48 is a new blue water performance cruising yacht built in Australia by Jarkan Pty. Ltd.

The design was developed from the King 46′ motor/sailer. These yachts have proven to be magnificent sea boats and deceptively fast under sail. They are unique in concept, using design elements from current high performance sailing yachts and traditional trawler-type motor yachts, qualities that combine in this design without conflict.

The key ingredient of the layout is the deck saloon. This has the galley, nav and control station, and saloon with passage berths all situated with commanding visibility. You can be on watch without being exposed to the elements an essential to short-handed passage making.

The layout below is based on having the forward cabin the in port owner’s cabin, with the luxury of an island double bed; a spacious and workable main saloon and galley area; aft cabins for guests; and a head with a separate, full sized, shower cubicle.

At sea the galley is safe and easy to use; there are a passage berths in the main saloon and aft.

The cockpit has all controls to hand and a sensible dodger – either solid or folding – protects the crew.

Remember this boat is not an old ocean racer revamped, but was purpose designed to be a superbly fast and truly seaworthy modern cruising yacht, under power or sail, for worldwide cruising.

Hull -

Hand laid GRP and end grain balsa, using Aquaguard Gelcoat, vinyl ester resin throughout with AC200 anti-corrosion mat, and incorporates 20% biaxial unidirectional rovings.

The deck is hand laid composite GRP and end grain balsa with solid GRP in the high stress areas, and has biaxial unidirectional rovings in the inner laminate.

Structural bulkheads are of 18mm marine plywood.

Lead ballast is encapsulated in the keel.

Rudder fitted with 316 stainless steel stock, bronze lower and nylon upper bearings.

Bronze or approved plastic through hulls and seacocks.

All stainless steel chain plates.

Stainless steel stem head fitting with two anchor rollers and MPS attachment point.

Engine -

Yanmar 75mhp or equivalent diesel, fully installed with  controls and standard instrumentation.

Folding propeller, Gori or Flexofold three bladed.

Mast & Rig, deck equipment -

Deck stepped two spreader mast stepped over compression post.

1 x 19 SS standing rigging, forestay, inner forestay, discontinuous shrouds, swept back configuration, backstay.

Main halyard and topping lift, 1 jib halyard, 1 spinnaker halyard, spinnaker pole topping lift (doubles as storm jib halyard), pole hoist and down haul. Boom with slab reefing system, lazy jacks and rigid vang.

Sails – organised separatly.

Steaming and spreader lights, standard navigation lights on rails, all round white at masthead, all LED.

SS Pulpit, split pushpit and stanchions with stainless lifelines, gates port and starboard.

Winches – Lewmar, Anderson or equivalent, all self-tailing; 2 primary headsail winches, 2 halyard and reefing winches, 1 mainsheet winch, 2 x lock-in handles.

Aluminium headsail sheet tracks with pin stop cars.

Halyard turning blocks, deck organisers, line jammers, fairleads, mooring cleats.

Lewmar drag link steering system with 1.2-meter diameter destroyer type wheel.

Engine controls on pedestal.

Stainless hand rails on cabin tops.

Walk through access to stern platform.

Lewmar deck hatches to Forepeak, Forecabin, Head, and Saloon (2).

Electrics -

12-volt house system with 4 AGM batteries (of approximately 100 amp hours ea), supplied by 120-amp alternator; switch panel, circuit breakers and wiring to cabin lights, navigation and mast lights, compass light, and autopilot. Spare circuits for radios and instruments.

Separate engine starting system with battery

Interior -

Forepeak with chain locker.

Watertight bulkhead.

Forecabin – double berth with general stowage under, hanging locker and lockers.

Head – toilet, hand basin, mirror and stowage, separate shower.

Main Saloon – U shaped settee with table to port, settee berth starboard, stowage under and outboard. Below deck control station with instruments, engine and autopilot controls if fitted.

Galley – laminex bench tops, SS twin bowl sink, mixer taps from pressure hot and cold water system, urethane foam insulated eutectic fridge, gimballed two-burner gas stove with griller and oven.

Navigation Area – lift top chart table with foam insulated eutectic freezer under.

Aft – Starboard – enclosed quarter cabin with double berth, hanging locker and stowage. Port – storage area with open shelving and access to lazarette and steering gear.

Equipment -

SS water tanks, 4 x 400 litre under main saloon sole.

SS diesel tanks, 2 x 500 litre under main saloon sole.

Muir Jaguar electric anchor winch with 25kg anchor, 70 meters of 10mm chain.

U-tech 12volt driven Danfoss compressor system top opening electric fridge, separate freezer with duplicate system.

Pressure hot and cold water to galley, hand basin and shower with sump pump.

Holding tank.

Gas bottle locker with two 4.5kg gas bottles.

Compass, fenders and mooring lines.

Instrumentation, equipment and radios to owner’s requirements at cost.

General Standard Finishes -

Bulkheads – Rock Maple ply with solid trim.

Teak and Rock Maple solid (6mm) cabin sole to main saloon, and forecabin.

Deckhead headliner – GRP mouldings to cabin sides, removable vinyl covered overhead panels in main saloon and cabins.

Timber battening to exposed hull sides in main and forward cabins, textured finish in aft bunk areas

Bunk Cushions – 100mm foam with soft fabric covers to saloon, latex or inner spring mattresses.

Antifouling, launching, and delivery by arrangement.
